So when do enterprise systems become “legacy?” It's not about age. A five-year-old system can be legacy if it was built on a framework nobody maintains anymore, uses patterns nobody implements anymore, and runs on infrastructure nobody wants to manage anymore.
Moving legacy applications to the cloud requires time and attention from people who are already busy. Some systems will need partial rewrites. Others won’t behave the same way once moved. If there’s no clear legacy system migration strategy, it’s easy to end up with higher costs and very little improvement.
